At age 5, Trip and his brother would create their own boardgames. One of the games involved his action figures called “The Birdmen.” In it, they would combine toys and craft a story about English soldiers against the Roman Empire.
At age 10, Trip discovered 2 new passions: football and baseball. He also began to play a football board game called Strat O Matic.
At age 12/13, Trip began to discover ideas to make a game that incorporated strategy and sports.
Near the end of high school, Trip created a game called Accu Stat/Strat-O-Matic. The game was a sports simulation game. It was a financial failure, but Trip learned from it and this experience definitely helped him create EA. His vision for his Strat O Matic game was to make it simulation like with less math and more playing.
Trip graduated Harvard in 1976 with a degree in strategy and applied game theory.
