Henry Ford was the founder of the Ford Motor Company. He was born in Sptingswell township, Wayne County, Michigan on July 30th, 1863. His father settled in the United States of America in 1847 in Wayne County. When Henry was younger, he showed a lot of interest in mechanics.
By the time he was 12, he spent the majority of his time spending in a mechanic shop where he equipped himself.
When he was 15, he constructed his first steam engine in the same shop. Later on, he became a machinist’s apprentice in Detroit in the shops of James F. Flower and Brothers, and in the plant of Detroit Dry Dock Company. After completing his apprenticeship, he spent a year working and repairing Westinghouse steam engines in Michigan.
His father gave him a pocket watch in his early teens. At 15, Ford dismantled and reassembled the timepieces of friends and neighbors dozens of times, gaining the reputation of a watch repairman.
In July 1882, he was hired as an engineer for a company called, Edison Illuminating Company of Detroit. Thomas Edison became Henry’s mentor and lifelong friend. During this period, Ford also studied bookkeeping at Goldsmith, Bryant & Stratton Business College in Detroit.
