Overview

Samantha is the CEO of one of the few 3D printing companies with a social focus. Currently she is actively working to capture the efforts of like-minded peers in the 3D printing community who are serving others. Samantha has spent the last year traveling to personally connect with thought leaders in the field and interviewing 3D printing users making a difference, which she is looking forward to sharing during her presentation. She also has begun donating one large 3D printer for every 100 her company delivers to groups seeking to make a difference through 3D printing. Additionally, her company is actively pursuing opportunities to 3D print from plastic trash.

Biography

Samantha Snabes is a Catalyst for re:3D facilitating connections between others printing human-scale and/or using recycled materials to create more access to 3D printable solutions worldwide. As re:3D Co-Founder, she currently serves on the IEEE Entrepreneurship Steering Committee. Previously, she served as the Social Entrepreneur in Residence for the NASA HQ and Deputy Strategist supporting NASA Johnson Space Center’s Space Life Sciences Directorate after selling a start-up for a DARPA-funded, co-patented tissue culture device.

Childhood Dream

She dreamt of being an astronaut. Throughout childhood, she went to every camp, seminar, and clinic to learn how to make that dream come true. Using internet searches she used to obtain the names of working professional astronauts.

Education

Samantha attended the University of Michigan–Dearborn, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in International Studies and Hispanic studies and a minor in psychology. She then went to graduate school, obtaining a Master’s degree with concentrations in Supply-Chain Management and International Relations and certifications as a firefighter & EMT-B.
