GIANT FOOTSTEPS

AGE 1-10

Steve Huffman began programming computers when he was around eight years old.

AGE 10-12

During this age, he was going to Wakefield School (K-12) in The Plains, Virginia

IN HIGH SCHOOL

In 2001, he graduated from Wakefield School in The Plains, Virginia

IN COLLEGE / UNIVERSITY

During his senior year at university, he and his roommate Alexis Ohanian attended a lecture by programmer-entrepreneur Paul Graham in Boston, Massachusetts, and also talked to him after the lecture, when Graham invited them to apply to his startup incubator Y Combinator. Their initial idea of developing a phone-based food-ordering system named 'My Mobile Menu', shortened to 'MMM', was rejected as there were not enough people browsing the internet on their cell phones at the time.

However, while they were on their way back home, Graham invited them back for another start-up idea, which he called the "front page of the Internet". They were accepted into Y Combinator's first-class and Huffman coded the entire Reddit site in Lisp in one month.

He then graduated in 2005 from the University of Virginia (UVA). Where he studied computer science.

After Y Combinator funded its launch in June 2005, the site grew exponentially within a short period of time, surprising both Huffman and Ohanian, who decided to sell the site to the mass media company Condé Nast on October 31, 2006, for $10-20 million. Huffman stayed the acting CEO of Reddit until 2009.

EARLY CAREER:

Huffman and Alexis Ohanian(his college roommate) drove to Boston, Massachusetts, during their spring break to attend a lecture delivered by programmer-entrepreneur Paul Graham. They talked with Graham after the lecture. And he invited them to apply in his startup incubator, Y Combinator. Huffman came up with an original idea, My Mobile Menu. The app allowed users to order food by SMS. Although the idea was rejected, but Graham asked Huffman and Ohanian to meet him in Boston to pitch another idea for a start-up. At that brainstorming session the idea that came up, Graham called the "front page of the Internet" was created. Huffman and Ohanian got accepted in Y Combinator's first class. Huffman coded the entire site in Lisp.  Finally he and Ohanian launched Reddit in June 2005. It was funded by Y Combinator.
