Pony Ma or 马化腾 (Ma Hua Teng) is a Chinese businessman, magistrate and philanthropist. He is the founder and CEO of the multi-billion Chinese tech company Tencent (腾讯). One of the largest internet and technology companies in the world, as well as the biggest gaming and entertainment conglomerate. The company is most well known for their mobile instant messaging application, Wechat. Which provides an overwhelming amount of different media such as news, entertainment, payment system, and advertising services. Tencent also owns stakes in many other western gaming companies: 100% of Riot Games, 84% of Supercell, 40% of Epic Games, 5% of Activision and more. To say that tencent plays a major part in the world’s entertainment industry is an understatement.
Pony Ma was born in 1971, October 29th in the county of Dongfang. At the age of 13, he and his family moved to Shenzhen for better economic opportunities.
Ma used to have a dream of being a astronomist, when he wrote it into his diary which was later found by his parents. They bought him a telescope. Pony became the first middleschooler in Shenzhen to observe the 103P/Hartley.
Pony got accepted and attended Shenzhen University with a score of 739/750 despite the choices of Tsinghua University and Peking University available, the reason being too far from home.
When Ma was choosing his major, he asked his teacher about the outcome of taking Astronomy, after finding out that the majority of the graduates did not end up becoming an astronomer, he decided to take computer science, another major that he enjoyed really much. During his school years, he was known for coding computer viruses.
Pony Ma Earned his B.S. degree in software engineering. Ma got employed by both China Motion Telecom Development and Shenzhen Ruxun Communications Co. Where he developed software for pagers and internet calling businesses.
