Justin Kan was born on July 16th, 1983 in Seattle, Washington. He grew up with two siblings, Daniel Kan and Damien Kan. Fun Fact: His brother Daniel owns Cruise, a very successful company worth 1$ billion dollars.

At age 13, Justin Kan attended Evergreen Middle School in Spokane Valley, Washington. Apparently this is also when he found out public speaking wasn’t from him as he gave a speech and held his notes over his face, according to his twitter account.

In High School Justin displayed a great interest in physics which explains why he decided to study it in university.

IN COLLEGE / UNIVERSITY

Justin attended Yale University studying a double major in physics and philosophy graduated in 2005. It was at this point where his social anxiety from public speaking would start greatly affecting him as he would be silent at all of his seminars.

In 2003, at the age of 20, Justin Kan founded an online calendar web application called Kiko. The company received $70,000 in funding from investors after the founding of the company, and in 2006 Justin Kan decided to sell the company on eBay for a final selling price of $258,000. The company shut down operations in May 2008 and was headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Adulthood

Despite studying physics all of Justin's ventures have been towards programming startups. At age 20, Justin founded his first business an online calendar web application called Kiko which he eventually sold on eBay at age 23 for $258,00. The same year in 2006, he founded Justin.tv live streaming platform and community dedicated to 24/7 streams of people's lives. A year later Justin started another live streaming platform dedicated to gamers. Seven years later in 2013, Justin shutdown Justin.tv since Twitch was growing so rapidly he wanted to put all of his time and effort into making twitch better. Then in 2014, amazon bought twitch for $1 billion dollars. To summarize how successful Justin was, his current net worth is $100 million dollars.
