GIANT FOOTSTEPS

AGE 1-10

Eric Yuan was born in 1970(exact birthdate is unknown), in Tai’an, Shandong Province, China. He was born as an only child with two parents (whose names are a mystery) who were mining engineers. Apparently his entrepreneurial mindset is a natural gift as in only 4th grade he was collecting copper to recycle it for money.

IN HIGH SCHOOL

IN COLLEGE / UNIVERSITY

In 1987 while Eric was 22 years old and in his first year of university at Shandong University of Science and Technology studying applied mathematics and geology engineering, he would frequently take train rides to visit his girlfriend Cherry who is currently his wife today. It was at this point that he was motivated to develop a video telephony software as he wanted a way to be with his girlfriend without having to take these long train rides. After completing his studies at Shandong University in 1997, Eric was inspired to move to Silicon Valley after hearing a speech Bill Gates made in Japan in 1995, and more specfically to join the tech boom going on in the woeld. So then at age 25 Eric moved to Stanford, California with the purpose of studying at Stanford university in their executive program whilst working at WebEx, a video conferencing business as a software engineer. After completing his studies at Stanford he became the vice president of engineering at WebEx.

Adulthood

In 2007, WebEx was bought out by Cisco systems for $3.2 billion USD, it was at this point Eric decided he wanted to step down as the VP of engineering as he wanted to make his video telephony software because he wanted to pursue his own product along with the fact he did not want to work for Cisco. So then in June of 2011 Eric officially left WebEx and made a start-up called SaaSbee. Eric brought along with him 45 engineers from WebEx to help him with his startup. In 2012, SaaSbee changed their name to Zoom Communications INC, as it has only really been uphill from then on or from 2019. In 2016, they recorded their first 500 meeting minutes and then when the COVID-19 pandemic hit it only skyrocketed their already rapidly growing company with everyone going home and their product needed throughout literally every home in the world.
